POLENTA FESTIVAL Vernio (Prato) Mi piace
On February 21st, 2010 the small town of Vernio (nearby Prato) will host the traditional Polenta Festival (Festa della Polenta o "Pulendina").
The festival is one of the most popular in the area because it repropose the evocation of the 1512 famine under the Spanish invasion. During this famine the local Counts Bardi gave Chestnuts polenta, herrings and codfish to the citizens. The Chestnut Polenta is a special polenta made by chestnuts flour and served with different topping.
At 9.30 a.m. there will also be a medieval pageant with over 500 participants along the town streets. Performances by historical groups in the afternoon.
